The evolution of Microcement

Today we want to talk about Microcemento, a coating that has been on par with the industrial style, but can adapt to other trends without any problem. Due to its wide variety of colors and characteristics, we will be surprised at the decorative level, giving us the opportunity to discover new ideas to renew the different rooms in our homes, local or business.
But what will this material have to sneak into our interiors more and more? We tell you where to use it, its possibilities and the (minimum) care it requires. Aim Well!
But what is microcement?
The microcement is a coating, usually bilayer, composed of cementitious base of high performance, mixed with polymers, fibers, aerators, Aridos and accelerants. All combined with colour pigments. A booming material that makes it an elegant and original product, which can be applied on most surfaces: tiles, plaster walls, metal, plastic, marble and even wooden furniture, thanks to its adhesion capacity. In addition to its durability, it has great resistance to water and shock, so it can be a good resource for renovations without demolition.
Quick and secure installation
It is applied artisanally with a metallic trowel, i.e. it is not self-levelling. Having a thickness of a few millimeters, this makes its “grip” great, even on surfaces where there are already other coatings (practically all, less parquet or pallet), so it is suitable to change soils without having to modify or Lower doors. It can even be applied on stairs. Few material options combine the aesthetics of a finish with its practical advantages. Being a flexible material, with a very thin thickness and also not leaving together in sight, it is also perfect for lining walls with it. In case you didn’t know, it’s fire retardant, so besides pretty, it will be very safe.
Multiple finishes
We can get a great variety of finishes. Depending on the type of microcement we apply we will achieve terminations with more or less texture. The pre-seal polishing work will allow for smooth, recommended finishes in soils. On the walls we can achieve more rustic effects if we do not do this work. With the sealing operation by means of acrylic resins and polyurethane, we can choose the appearance of the final protection: matte, satin or glossy.
They are soils that look very good, even with their small microfissures (as long as they are not excessive). The cloths can be divided with other materials such as wood embedded in the same dough, expansion joints, gums, stones, or color changes with small groove.
Combines seamlessly with other materials
It combines with materials like wood, where you can use them for example on the pavement creating joints in the same visual plane. The microcement is flexible and adapts well to any space, so it is a good option to apply in renovations.
Another option is to enter it in the kitchen. If you want to make a countertop or a front, you don’t have to be afraid of stains. It is not porous and is cleaned with water. Anyway, the materials age and change color and do not stop being beautiful, so I would not worry too much about the tone, as keeping it as the first day will be impossible.
Also for outdoors
It may be the most common use, but it is no longer interesting. The Microcemento, in exterior pavements, gives excellent results. First, we are facing a soil that does not present together. It is a material capable of covering large extensions of one piece. This avoids, on the one hand, the typical cracks where the dirt seeps. In addition, this type of continuous soils bring elegance to your terrace. It should be added that microcement is a material highly resistant to water and sudden temperature changes, depending on the layers of the sealant will get more or less impermeability.
Simple, but habitual care
This material is very easy to maintain, as it cannot be stained, if the sealing and waterproofing process has been carried out correctly. However, periodic maintenance is necessary to guarantee greater durability and a better amortization of its aesthetic properties, simply following a suitable use. It should be cleaned with water and neutral soap, although the ideal if the microcement is placed in soil is to renew the protective layer of the material applying self-shining waxes diluted in water.
Industrial, sophisticated, colorful and what else? Do you urge to use it in any stay of your home? It seems to Me that the microcement is going to happen to our list of favorites! Whatever you look at it, the microcement is exclusive.
